WINTER WONDERLAND – TENTATIVE PLANS

PARENTS AND GOLFERS:  TIME TO CONTACT YOUR GROUP SUPERVISOR AND GET ASSIGNED A TIME FOR THE WINTER WONDERLAND EVENT..(THEIR CELL NUMBERS ARE LISTED)..

Let the supervisor/scheduler know when you prefer to work) WE HAD DECENT RESPONSE FROM OUR GROUP BUT WE COULD STILL USE MORE HELP.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED/ABLE TO HELP OUT, CALL THE SUPERVISOR OF THE GROUP YOU’D LIKE TO WORK WITH.

THE GOLF TEAM IS SCHEDULED TO VOLUNTEER FOR Thursday & Friday ONLY FOR NOW

============================================================================

The Golf team and parents are stepping up to do something important for Bixby. ONCE AGAIN!

Here are TENTATIVE plans for the first week of the Winter Wonderland Festival. We will have changes and additions of course, but let’s proceed from here and listed players and families should contact the listed “supervisor/scheduler” of each activity.

FOR GOLF TEAM PLANNING PURPOSES, I have designated the activities by a number to help us keep track of where are volunteers are working & to help track where we need additional help

MOST STATIONS NEEDS ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU CAN HELP. IF YOU ARE ALREADY LISTED AS A VOLUNTEER, CALL THE SUPERVISOR’S NUMBER FOR YOUR STATION TO GET A TIME SLOT TO WORK.

WE NEED TO PLAN TO HELP AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE FIRST WEEK (7th thru 9th) …. The 9th may not require as much from us as a church group may be helping that night. Plus there are other local people that may want to help.

My intent was to have the golf team insure that enough volunteers were available if other local volunteer groups did not sufficiently handle the stations.

The event coordinator will let us know by mid-week this week how things are looking.  (Bridgette   691-9035)  AT THAT TIME, THE SUPERVISOR OF EACH GROUP WILL START FILLING IN TIME SLOTS EACH NIGHT.

It may seem like a daunting task at this point BUT if each group just makes sure their station gets staffed each night, that should make things run smooth.

BIXBY’S WINTER WONDERLAND

Bixby is having a fantastic celebration of CHRISTmas this year starting Dec. 7th. There will be activities in the downtown area on Dec. 7th, 8th & 9th… Then there will be a short break and continued Dec. 21st, 22nd & 23rd.

This celebration will be a fun and beneficial activity for our Spartan Golfers to be a part of.  All proceeds will go to local clubs and non-profit organizations, including the Bixby Outreach center. School groups volunteering to work the program will also receive proceeds but any money donated back to the golf program will be dedicated to the Outreach Center.

We need player and parent participation and I PROMISE all those that work to make this a success for our community will enjoy the experience AND benefit from the experience as well!

I have signed us up, as a group, to help insure that this is a big success for our community. SO PLEASE DONATE YOUR TIME.  We will have a Rib Crib sponsored dinner and CHRISTmas party for our golfers and family members who represent our team!!!

HERE IS WHAT I PROPOSE:

#1 NEED:  2 Dads or perhaps a father & son team to set up sound equipment at 4:00 and take it back down at 9:00 – takes about an hour to set it up and take it down. No obligations in between. (2 workers total)

#2 NEED:  6 WORKERS (Combination of moms/dads and golfers) from 4:00 to 10:00 to sell SANTAS SWEETS – Cookies, etc at an assigned booth area. The 6 hours can be shared by 2 teams of 6 workers if so desired…

#3 NEED: 6 WORKERS  (Combination of  moms/dads and golfers) from 4:00 to 10:00 to selling crafts at a booth titled “MRS. SANTA CLAUS’ CRAFTS”. The 6 hour shift can be shared by 2 teams of 6 workers if so desired.

#4 NEED: 4 to 8 WORKERS (Combination of moms/dads and golfers) from 4:00 to 7:00 selling Hot choc. & Coffee.

AN IDEAL SITUATION, FROM MY THINKING, IS THAT ONE OR TWO MOMS OR DAD AGREE TO BE THE “SUPERVISOR” OF NEED STATIONS #2, #3 & #4.  By doing so, we can assign the players and parents to that supervisor and rotate the shifts as needed. AND HOPEFULLY THAT SUPERVISOR WILL MANAGE THAT ACTIVITY FOR THE 6 DAYS OF THE EVENT.

THE EVENT DATES AGAIN ARE DEC. 7TH, 8TH & 9TH….AND AGAIN 21st, 22nd & 23rd.  We have over 75 golfers and add in another 100 or so active parents or grand parents in kid’s lives, we should easily be able to assist to make this awesome program a success for years to come!

I plan to be in charge of quality control myself, making sure the Hot choc. and Santas Sweets are acceptable and a quality product!

Thanks for getting involved:  Please email or text me if you can “Supervise/organize” one of the 3 Stations. Together we can get plenty of workers from our ranks for you to schedule.  The Bixby Winter Wonderland’s website allows for sign-ups for volunteer and I have already signed us up! I note that I only signed up for the first night at this point, but once I hear from many of you, I plan to sign us up for the other days.  918-527-7169     kmorrow@bixbyps.org

YOU MUST PLAN FOR YOUR ACTIVITY AND WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING. (INCLUDES WINTER GEAR AS NEEDED)

YOU MAY NOT WORK-OUT IN STREET CLOTHING OR STREET SHOES. (ON THE INDOOR TURF OR THE YOGA STUDIO. YOU MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN TEAM RUNS WITHOUT PROPER SHOES.

FAILING TO PREPARE FOR AND PARTICIPATE IN YOUR ACTIVITY WILL EFFECT YOUR RANKING STATUS. YOU CAN BE PENALIZED MATCHES IN THE SPRING AND/OR HAVE TO MAKE UP THE MISSED WORKOUTS. WE PAY FOR THE MARTIAL ARTS AND YOGA INSTRUCTOR’S TIME: USE IT!

WEATHER PERMITTING, WE MAY BREAK FROM THE WORKOUT ROUTINE AT TIMES. BE PREPARED TO GO TO A COURSE, IN SMALL PRE-ASSIGNED GROUPS. KEEP YOUR CLUBS AND GOLF ATTIRE AVAILABLE. (In a complex locker or in your car)  I WILL WATCH FOR FAVORABLE WEATHER PATTERNS AND ADVISE THOSE PLAYERS WHO ARE PLAYING AS EARLY IN THE DAY AS POSSIBLE.

PRIVATE LESSONS WILL USUALLY TAKE PRIORITY OVER WORK-OUT SCHEDULES. (Either at your home course or the Complex)  Set up lessons as compatible with your off-season schedule as possible. (IN OTHER WORDS, DON’T INTENTIONALLY SKIP WORK-OUTS OR TEAM RUNS!)

Some golfers may “test out” of team runs. Some golfers may be prevented from certain activities based on medical issues.

MANDATORY SATURDAY MORNING PRACTICES WILL START DEC 2nd.  WATCH FOR THAT SCHEDULE.

HIGH SCHOOL & JUNIOR HIGH can be a very competitive teams this spring. (BOYS & GIRLS)  LET’S MAKE SURE NOBODY OUTWORKS US THIS WINTER!

PRACTICE INFORMATION

We do practice in cold weather, within limits. Our targeted temperature is 50 degrees, but wind can effect that temperature, of course.  Decisions to change plans are made between 1:00 & 2:00 so check your messages or website postings.

YOU MUST BE PREPARED FOR THE TEMPERATURE HOWEVER, OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE.  (You should have cold weather gear in your car and/or golf bag)

  1. Wear your hoodies up or a stocking cap
  2. Have a wind jacket AND wind pants or sweat pants. (NOT ONLY YOGA PANTS)
  3. Get winter gloves

Remember, When we start tournament play in March, the weather will be cold & windy…… (SOMETIMES RAIN OR LIGHT SNOW)

Again, be responsible and prepared. If you don’t properly plan to play or practice in the conditions that exist,  you should not try to play. You will be dropped from your assigned matches. All play before Dec. 1st is voluntary BUT after Dec. 1st, practices are mandatory.

SPARTAN GOLF MISSION STATEMENT

Participation on the Spartan Golf Team is designed to offer a student a school athletic  experience that offers a lasting impact on his or her life. The sport of golf is a ‘Lifetime sport” that can be played well into adulthood and even into a persons retirement years.  The specific nature and physical requirements to play  golf are such that most students can participate, even those without the significant “physical ability” to participate in impact sports or sports requiring speed or strength. The sport does however, promote and build strength, stamina and overall fitness levels in students.

A Spartan Golfer will have repeated opportunities to exhibit  “Existing personal character”  or develop appropriate traits in areas including but not limited to:  a) Self imposing rules of the game violations   b)  Personal Integrity & Honesty in score keeping    c)  Exhibiting high level of sportsmanship in victory or defeat   d) Their interest and ability to represent their parents as well as Bixby High School as outstanding student athletes.

While the goal of all school team sports, in part, is to win championships, a primary goal of the Spartan Golf Team is to develop outstanding young men and women and help to prepare them for life after high school.  Regardless of how well an individual Spartan athlete does on the high school golf course, if a student learns to always give their best effort and demonstrate a high level of sportsmanship & integrity at all times,  then that student’s high school sports team experience will have been a complete and total success.
