The Deer Creek GIRLS tournament for March 5th has been cancelled by the host school due to anticipated weather concerns.

We have replaced that event with a Stillwater tournament March 9th at Lakeside. The same players will be assigned to that event.

We will depart from the school at 6:45AM – After we play, we will eat at Eskimo Joe’s, anticipating a return home by 7:30 to 8:00

2019 Season Information:

The 2019 Schedules are posted below.

DO NOT CONSIDER THE ASSIGNED TOURNAMENTS AS “SET IN STONE” FOR EACH PLAYER. Rankings, eligibility and tournament cancellations can require updates or modifications of the schedule.  As we have seen already this season from Whitehawk Closing, major changes may occur that we have little control over.

WE OFTEN HAVE BAD WEATHER CANCELLATIONS THAT WILL REQUIRE ADJUSTMENTS TO PLAYING SCHEDULES.  But for the most part, your Spartan’s schedule will be mostly accurate, if not totally accurate.

MEAL MONEY AND/OR OVERNIGHT TRIP EXPENSES WILL BE TIGHTER THIS YEAR DUE TO OUR LOSING OUR INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT DATES.  Some tournaments close to home may involve the team not stopping to eat after we play, if we arrive back at Bixby with reasonable time for the players  to eat dinner at home.

Plan to send snacks with your Spartan to keep in their golf bags. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THEY EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST BEFORE PLAYING.  (Even if a player does not ordinarily eat breakfast) They will run out of gas after a couple hours of play without nourishment. HELP THEM LEARN TO BE SMART ABOUT THAT.

When the boys play 36 holes, they will have lunch provided between rounds.  When we play out of the Tulsa area, Boys & girls will stop for dinner. Players will get $10 per meal money. If they need more than that, have them plan for it.

Junior High players will stop for dinner after play after specific tournaments as well. (We usually go to CiCis) or MacDonalds.  Those tournaments will be identified in advance.

VERY IMPORTANT:  Have your Spartans plan for their trips the night before each tournament. They need to pack their travel bags with warm gear. The weather is often cold especially in March.  PLAYERS LATE FOR THE BUS MUST GO ON TO SCHOOL. They cannot be transported to a tournament by a private vehicle in ALMOST ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.  Help them strive to be early for these activities. They can warm up in the complex in the mornings in some cases.

Bus departure times are posted on a Remind101 in advance of each trip. MAKE SURE YOUR SPARTAN HAS SIGNED YOU UP FOR THE MESSAGES.

Players failing to wear the team uniforms will not be allowed to go on the bus and play. Every year someone “loses their uniform” or forgets to wash it….etc…. Again, help them learn to plan for their activities, well in advance. (Just like sleeping thru an alarm…. I never accept them blaming it on mom or dad… They are old enough to start to handle these things themselves.

Players may ride home AFTER TOURNAMENTS with their own parent only.  (NOT A FRIENDS PARENT)

We are going to have a great year at all levels. You are encouraged to come watch your son or daughter compete.  Watching them play is the most fulfilling sporting activity you can observe them directly involved in..…. They have the ball EVERY PLAY…. They are never standing in right field with no chances to catch a ball or bat later…. No one has to pass them a ball or kick it to them to give them a chance to shoot or score….  You have a chance to see several hours of them ATTEMPT EVERY SHOT…. Anywhere from 40 to 120 times!  Don’t miss it, if you can make it happen!

On Friday the 8th we will take pictures at the COMPLEX.  YEARBOOK STAFF and SHIPMAN PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE HERE FOR PICS. You can buy a packet from Shipman if you want individual pics. The form will be posted this week.

Junior High will be first period – High School 7th period

JH BOYS – Wear the new tournament shirts and kahki pants or shorts.

JH GIRLS, wear a red skirt if you have one or white. (THE NEW RED ONES SHOULD BE IN THIS WEEK, IF YOU ORDERED ONE)

HS BOYS – Wear the new tournament shirt and the new black slacks.

HS GIRLS – Wear the Red skirts  & New shirts (If they come in) – If not, then wear a white skirt if you have one.

BE PREPARED – You will not have time to go home toe get uniform items. If You miss the Team picture, there will not be a make-up date.

For players in a winter sport, try to get away for a few minutes for the yearbook picture, or otherwise, we will try to photoshop you in.

We need to get our Spring plans firmed up for tournaments for JV players as well as trips planned for overnight varsity trips. Our practice fees at golf courses also need to be paid. ALSO, i NEED TO PLAN FOR WHICH TOURNAMENTS WE CAN AFFORD TO FEED THE PLAYERS. (We like to feed the kids after all tournaments, and usually do, of course)

The player’s initials listed below owe their spring fees. Players that had 2 HOLE SPONSORS or a Blue Level sponsor or Red Level (without a team entry) are paid up for the rest of the year. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOUR INITIALS ARE LISTED BELOW AND YOU MET ONE OF THOSE REQUIREMENTS. We did have a couple of sponsor forms that did not show a sponsored player’s name…… Or perhaps a sponsor was credited to the wrong player…..

The fees for the remainder of the year are $175 – If you had one hole sponsor, that satisfies half of your fees so you will owe just $87.50. CHECKS PAYABLE TO BPS

FULL FEES DUE :     LF – EH  – BL – LL – SL             HALF FEES DUE :   MS

< BOYS >

FULL FEES DUE:   MF – BG – KG – AK  – AT     HALF FEES:  KF – NG – KK – RL – DM – MM

As of now, we have enough tournament scheduling options for all players to play schedules from 7 to 9 matches as allowed by the OSSAA. The TAB for those tournaments will be in the area of $13,000. Food expenses are expected to be in the area of $4,000 to $5,000. Over $12,000 in Uniforms & spirit gear have been ordered and paid for.

WE EXPECT TO HAVE A GREAT COMPETITIVE SEASON. As a result of our SUCCESSFUL fund raising scramble tournament, we are one of the best, if not THE BEST, funded golf programs in the state.

From Coaches; Morrow, Reno, Moore, Snyder, Huerta & Hill

SPRING FEES REMINDER: $175  Fees due between Dec 1st & 15th. (Checks payable to BPS)

Initials listed below for players that have fees do. Audit it and let me know if there are errors.     I know CHRISTmas is a bad time to have to pay golf fees but we do have to pay for course use and know if we can afford to enter all the invitationals we want to play at the beginning of the semester.  The fees amount to less than $40 a month for your Spartan to fully participate in tournaments and have alot of free access to course use.  We strive to keep the cost reasonable.

The Junior High players will have a ranking, play/day Dec. 8th. We will set it up as a NON MANDATORY double elimination match-play tournament at Lit’l Links. The cost for playing in the tournament is $25 but we will pay half from our fund raising monies. Your player’s fee for playing is $12.50. The fee includes range balls, at least 3 matches and lunch. (Make checks payable to Lit’ Links the day of the event)

SCORES AND RESULTS WILL BE HELPFUL IN OUR TEAM RANKING FOR THE SPRING. We’ll meet with the kids in the 1st hour class, next Monday Dec. 3rd to explain the format & sign up players. PLEASE BE PREPARED TO LET ME KNOW (on the 3rd) IF YOUR SPARTAN CANNOT PLAY IN THE TOURNAMENT OR ATTEND PRACTICE THAT DAY. (We have to seed & bracket  players)

We are are capable of winning BOTH the girls & boys Frontier Conference Championships. What we do in the winter months will determine how successful we are. NOBODY WILL OUTWORK US!

I SHOW THESE JH PLAYERS WITH FEES DUE

<$175>   Boys:   AD – LF – NF – PF – CK – JL – CM – CM – CP – RR      Girls:    KH – RT – PV

Correct me if your Spartan is listed and you did secure Hole Sponsors. Some forms did not reflect who a sponsoring Spartan player was or may not have been completed at all.

The 2019 tournament schedule is about wrapped up. Below is the BOYS “tentative schedule” as of 11/20/18. THERE CAN BE SOME CHANGES based on ranking, eligibility and discipline issues. Also, schools change their tournament dates, on occasion.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND SOME ROSTER CHANGES BECOME NECESSARY SO JUST COUNT ON THIS SCHEDULE AS A BASELINE FOR PLANNING YOUR SPRING SCHEDULE.

The goal is to insure all players have multiple opportunities to compete each spring. While there is a direct focus on insuring the top 5 to 8 players participate in certain tournaments to prepare us for Regionals & State competition, EVERY PLAYER will have an opportunity to improve his ranking status and be included in Regional Team consideration.  We want our best 5 players playing for a chance to advance to the State Tournament @ Rose Creek in May.

Start strong in your early tournament performances. Consistency and experience weigh heavily in selecting the regional & state team rosters. Make sure YOUR SCORES place you on the final season top 5 roster.  I HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU WHAT YOU DO IN THE FALL DETERMINES YOUR SUCCESS THIS SPRING…. DON’T WASTE ANY PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES!

Players are assigned specific tournaments thru 3/28. After that date, actual tournament performance and/or head to head ranking matches will determine who travels to Rose Creek on 4/1 for the State Preview.  The Owasso tournament on 4/6 is a 36 hole Regional Preview and will possibly be our last rankings in determining the CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM for 4/11 @ Paige Belcher (36 Holes).

OFF SEASON SCHEDULE – Nov 19th thru Feb 14th

Off Season workouts start Monday Nov. 19th and end Feb 14th 2019.

ALL H.S. GOLFERS ARE REQUIRED TO  FULLY PARTICIPATE UNLESS EXCUSED BY THE COACH  (For Medical reasons and/or when on course practice time is scheduled)

Plan daily & Keep a gym bag packed for your workouts. YOU MUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE WORKOUT SITES AFTER 6TH HOUR. You do not have time to go home to forget clothing items. IF YOU ARE LATE FOR THE START TIMES, OR DO NOT HAVE APPROPRIATE CLOTHING,  You will not be allowed to workout. 2 such episodes will require a meeting with the coach and/or parents. Continued tardiness or “forgetting clothing, or being unprepared for any other reason may be result in your removal from the golf program for the spring competitive season.

Players MUST WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING at all workouts. You will not be allowed to work out in school clothing that is not specifically designed for physical exercise. For example – “jeans” are not allowed… SWEATS, GYM SHORTS, YOGA PANTS, TEE SHIRTS ARE REQUIRED CLOTHING FOR Yoga, karate & weight training.  Appropriate footwear is required. The instructors will advise you if bare or socked feet are suitable for given workouts in Yoga and karate. TENNIS SHOES ARE REQUIRED FOR WEIGHT TRAINING.

If possible, you should also keep your golf clubs and winter golf attire available if/when the weather allows for select/small groups to go to the course. I will try to predict when this is to happen with as much advance notice as possible. (It will mainly be for Varsity players who are likely to be in the top 5 to 7 players this spring).  Keeping your clubs and appropriate playing clothing in your trunk of the car or at the complex, will be a good idea. WINTER WEAR A MUST.

After Dec. 1st, we are allowed to practice more than one hour a day.  YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO SO.

There will be some Saturday morning indoor practices this winter as well as small groups will return to the COMPLEX after weight training for 30 to 45 minutes of indoor practice, on a rotating basis. OUR INDOOR FACILITY ALLOWS US TO IMPROVE OUR GAMES THIS WINTER, While most of our competitors do not have the opportunity we have to do so. Let’s not waste the advantage we have.

Starts:  Nov. 19th

GIRLS:  Mondays & Wednesdays @ POWERHOUSE for weight training   -Tuesdays & Thursdays  @ YOGA Studio – Fridays TBA (Complex)

BOYS:  Mondays & Wednesdays Karate Instruction @ COMPLEX  – Tuesdays & Thursdays @ POWERHOUSE for weight training
